Welcome today to our next Catholic Mothers Online Featured Mom. Today, we’re going to get to know a Dr. Pepper lovin’ Aggie by the name of Kathryn. Kathryn can be found writing at the blog Team Whitaker.
So, Kathryn, share some information about yourself and your family.
As the mom of five (ages 11-2) and wife to an amazing man, we’re working on this parenthood gig day by day.
In a few one- to two-word descriptions, this is me: Catholic Convert, Graphic Designer, Dr Pepper Lover, Texan, Aggie, Cyclone, Preemie advocate, Organizer, Party Planner and Social Media Addict.
Tell us about your blog.
At Team Whitaker, I blog about what I know: big families, my Catholic faith, prematurity, Dr Pepper, my beloved Texas Aggies and finding God in the details.
I’m also the Lead Blogger at PreemieBabies101.com; I share our journey and life lessons in prematurity, in addition to managing 20 or so other bloggers.
What is your confirmation name?
Brigid
If you could have anything for dessert tonight, what would it be?
Derby Pie, topped with Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream – I “am” a southern girl.
What are some of your favorite things about being Catholic?
Oh, I love the church’s history best. Her traditions and integration into almost every aspect of modern culture – healthcare, education, social justice – make me feel connected to God. I adore being Catholic. It is the best “yes” I ever said.
If you suddenly had $100 that you had to spend on yourself (not give away or spend on your family), what would you buy?
A massage and a pedicure. Those are two things I wish I could do all the time!
If you have an iPod or MP3 player, go put it on shuffle. What are the first five songs that come up?
- Monster Hospital (Metric)
- C’Mon Marianne (The Four Seasons, “Jersey Boys” soundtrack)
- One by One (Enya)
- Chaplet of Divine Mercy (Our Lady of Mt Carmel)
- The Change (Steven Curtis Chapman)
Might I say, that list just cracked me up. Who am I?!?
Share a tip with our readers that makes your life easier.
Plan your meals ahead of time – it will save you time, money and most of all, screaming at your family because you’re in a rush.
Share five of your favorite blogs
- iHeartOrganizing (I was recently featured there, and that was a huge honor)
- Capturing Joy with Kristen Duke (that girl has some fantastic photo tips)
- Amy Atlas Blogs (she is the master of party dessert tables, I am so inspired by her design ideas)
- Conversion Diary (this is a new one to the list and I really enjoy Jen’s insight)
- Austin Catholic New Media (I’ve found some great community through that outlet)
What are some of your favorite activities to do with your family?
Quite honestly, I don’t focus too much on what we do, but rather that we’re doing it together. Whether it’s walking down to the local ice cream shop, touring the botanical garden or working in the yard, I just enjoy time with them. It’s my love language.
Thanks so much for taking the time to share about yourself, Kathryn! You can get to know Kathryn even better by checking out her blog, Team Whitaker.

I had to go look up “derby pie.” I think I have a recipe that fits that description….but I haven’t tried it yet!
