Blog Roll Blogs versus Catholic Gadget Blogs

A while ago, I had a reader write in with this following question:

I see on the gadget bar in the blog section, only a few of the blog roll from the website. Is this or will this not be the same list of blog roll members?

While I did take the time to answer her via email, I thought this was a great question that I wanted to touch on here on the blog too, since others might be wondering the same thing.

The short answer is: No, the blog listing on the Catholic Gadget is not the same as the entire blog roll listing. (You can go check out to see if your blog is on the Catholic Gadget by downloading it, if you haven’t already. On the Catholic Gadget site, there is also coding that you can use on your site to share that you blog/site is featured on the Catholic Gadget, if you would like it.)

The slightly longer answer is that the listing on the Catholic Gadget of blogs is purposefully not all that are on the blog roll. And, as a matter of fact, there are blogs on the Catholic Gadget that aren’t on the blog roll at all (and, obviously, there are blogs on the blog roll that aren’t on the Catholic Gadget). The two lists are different from one another. If all 600+ (maybe it’s 700+ now) blogs from the blog roll were on the Catholic Gadget, then that tool bar would be out of control. It’s just way too many links to be useful.

You are always welcome to suggest a site for the Catholic Gadget (whether is be your site or a somebody else’s site). There is no guarantee that suggesting it means it will be added. And, if it isn’t added, it doesn’t mean that we don’t like your blog. (Likewise, if it’s not on there already, even if it is a large, well known site, it doesn’t mean that the omission is purposeful. So, feel free to just fill out the site suggestion.) Site suggestions are only looked through from time to time (every few months), so don’t get discouraged.

I hope this helps for those that were curious about why the blog listings are different between the blog roll (which can now be accessed through our navigation bar above) and the Catholic Gadget blog tab listing.
